Yttrium-90 Radioembolization for Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The role of Yttrium-90 radioembolization for patients with metastatic colorectal carcinoma to the liver is evolving. This chapter reviews the principles of Yttrium-90 radioembolization, dosimetry calculations and considerations, treatment assessment, and published data with specific attention to studies in which Yttrium-90 was used as adjunctive or refractory treatment to first-line chemotherapy. A special emphasis is placed on the potential utility of Yttrium-90 in the surgical patient, specifically, highlighting the role of Yttrium-90 for (1) simultaneous induction of ipsilateral tumour control with concurrent contralateral future liver remnant hypertrophy and (2) downstaging patients to resection.
